Bridgwater Town 1 Wantage Town 1

AN 83rd minute equaliser from Harry Horton rescued a point for Bridgwater Town as they drew 1-1 with Wantage Town at Fairfax Park on Saturday.

Horton got himself on the end of a cross from the right-hand side to level the scores seven minutes from time, after Sam Barder had opened the scoring for the visitors early in the second half.

The game got off to a frantic start with both teams doing their best to stop the other from playing.

The first clear chance fell to Wantage in the 18th minute when Barder found himself in space on the right edge of the penalty box, but his shot was deflected out for a corner.

With the pace not slowing down, both defences were kept busy but neither team managed to break through to test the keepers.

The next real chance wasn't until the 40th minute and that also fell to Wantage, with Barder, out on the right wing, collecting the ball on the halfway line and running to the edge of the box where he crossed to Mark Francis. Francis rounded a defender and played a lovely weighted ball for Gio Wrona, but Wrona’s shot went just wide of the post.

The game continued in the same fashion in the second half with both defences standing strong.

The deadlock was finally broken in the 57th minute when Wantage scored to take the lead.

The move started with a goal kick which was knocked on from midfield, with the ball landing just between and behind the two centre backs.

Sam Barder outpaced both defenders and struck the ball beautifully from 25 yards out to give his side the lead.

Bridgwater gambled in the last 15 minutes by going on the offensive and pushing more men forward, which eventually paid off.

In the 83rd minute Harry Horton wasn't tracked by the visiting defence and was able to get on the end of a ball fired in from the right wing, bringing the score back to a draw at 1-1.

The last seven minutes saw Bridgwater pushing forward, desperate to score and claim all three points, but Wantage held firm.

The Robins welcome Bishops Cleeve to Fairfax Park tonight (Tuesday, 7.45pm).
