Glastonbury 166-8 beat Bridgwater 165 by two wickets

BRIDGWATER 2nds lost by two wickets for the second time in two weeks when they visited Glastonbury on Saturday.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat on a wicket which only going to get harder to bat on, Bridgwater slumped to 165 all out.

Ben Coombes again looked assured at the top of the order, top scoring with 45.

Some useful lower order runs from Tom Pople (34) helped Bridgwater get to a total which they felt could be defendable with some disciplined bowling.

Unfortunately, Glastonbury got off to a flyer, despite losing a wicket early to Ian Higgins, as they raced to 50-1 after 10 overs.

The introduction of Ed Habberfield to the attack brought two quick wickets, but Bridgwater’s bowlers struggled to stem the flow of runs as they gave the Glastonbury batters far too many loose delivers.

It wasn’t until spin bowling pair Matt Habberfield and Andrew Skidmore were brought into the attack simultaneously that Bridgwater started to gain any control.

Both bowlers produced excellent spells of bowling, both picking up two wickets each as Bridgwater chipped away at Glastonbury’s batting order.

Scott Clapp returned to pick up another wicket but that was to be it as Glastonbury snuck over the line with two wickets to spare.

Bridgwater 2nds will look to bounce back next week when they entertain North Petherton CC at The Parks, 12.30pm start.

Bridgwater would like to thanks match ball sponsors TMB Patterns and joint travel sponsors Falcon Vehicle Solutions and Charles Dickens Estate Agents.
