MIDDLEZOY Rovers Reserves slipped to a 4-2 defeat at the hands of Alcombe Rovers in Division One of the Taunton & District Saturday League.

Away side Alcombe were influenced by two Andrew Land goals, with Adam Jefferies and Jack Bodley also getting on the score sheet.

Ryan Kilday and Darren Cann struck for Middlezoy, who were overtaken by their opponents in the table, dropping to sixth place.

In Division Three, leaders Ash Rangers extended their lead at the top of the standings to four points in a pivotal game, after convincingly beating second placed rivals Woolavington 6-2. Sam Godfrey and Josh Crockett managed consolations for Woolavington, who succumbed to their first defeat.

Bridgwater Sports had to battle hard to move up to first place in Division Four, as they edged out a 4-2 win at lowly Middlezoy Athletic.

The three teams within proximity of Wolves all have games in hand on their title contenders, in what could be an interest tussle for top spot.

Bridgwater Grasshoppers are one of those teams within touching distance, who trail Wolves by six points but they do boast three games in hand.

Grasshoppers flew to victory with a 6-0 thumping of East Bower the latter being rooted to the bottom of the table.

Shane Thompson smashed a hat trick, Dan Saunders settled for two goals and Luke Lawrence rounded off the scoring.

In Division Five, Bridgwater Sports Colts won by a slender 2-1 score line at mid table outfit White Eagles, to maintain their four-point lead at the peak of the standings.

Gary Howes and Garth Treasure goals delivered the all-important win for Colts.

Nether Stowey stay in eighth, but more importantly move four points clear of counterparts Morganians Reserves, after beating them 2-1 away from home.

David Trout and Craig Nurton struck the vital goals for the visitors.

There were two ties in the First Round of the Rowbarton Charity Cup, the first saw Division Two leaders Sydenham sail through with a 5-1 win at Creech Cougars, who are a league below.

In the second, a Division Two side again beat a Division Three side, as Morganians progressed with a 4-1 victory over Redgate.

Andrew James kept up his good goal scoring form with two more goals to his tally, with Adam Birchill and Callum Jamelson finishes making it four for the home team. Sam Granville struck the sole effort for Redgate.
