Somerset Senior Cup Round Three

Middlezoy Rovers 5 Winscombe 0

MIDDLEZOY leapt into the last sixteen for the fourth year in succession with a comfortable win over visiting Winscombe at a windy Aerodrome.

First-half goals from Dan Luce and Adam Prescott saw Middlezoy into the break with a lead - which did not nearly reflect their dominance - and second-half strikes from the same two players and a further goal from Craig Wright capped a fine performance from the hosts.

The graft of Andy Smith in the Middlezoy midfield and energy of Max Cushing stood out from the off, but missed chances from Prescott, Luce and Cushing meant Zoy had to wait until the half hour mark to find the net.

Luce was found by the impressive Cushing for the first from close range and it was Cushing again who set up Prescott minutes later as Middlezoy went in two goals ahead.

Luce got his second of the afternoon just after the break, cutting in from the right and firing under the keeper after another Cushing assist. Prescott then made it four as his header beat the stranded Winscombe keeper, unbelievably Cushing with his fourth assist of the afternoon.

A mazy run from Charlie Lintell led to the final goal on 79 minutes as he was chopped down on the edge of the area and Craig Wright’s resulting free-kick sailed into the top corner.

Further chances went begging for Middlezoy, the best of which fell to the head of Jake Horsey who missed the target.

The visitors managed one shot late on, which was easily collected by Turner, who was a spectator for most of the afternoon.

It’s a first clean sheet in five games for Rovers - who meet the same opponents at home in the league this weekend - where they will be confident of extending their perfect start to the season.
