Bridgwater 226-8 beat Frocester 223-6 by two wickets

BRIDGWATER took a huge step towards Premier One safety with a stunning last over victory over league leaders Frocester on Saturday.

With Taunton Deane losing at Bath, Bridgwater are now 11 points clear of the drop zone with two games left to play courtesy of a superb all-round display.

Andy Roberts (10no) once again held his nerve, as he did three weeks ago against Ilminster, to see his side home in a dramatic run chase – after Mitch Windsor (45) and Daniel van der Berg (44) had top scored in pursuit of 223.

Liam Kitch (30) played a valuable knock at the top of the order to kick-start the reply, while Chris Skidmore also chipped in with 21 vital runs at a run-a-ball.

Chris Singleton (11no) struck two fours in seven balls to help guide Bridgwater closer to their target, before Roberts once again proved the hero to fire Bridgwater out of the bottom two.

Earlier, the Bridgwater bowlers combined to restrict Frocester to 223-6 from their 50 overs – Robbie Montgomery (2-44) and Chris Skidmore (2-39) took two wickets apiece and there was a wicket each for van der Berg (1-30) and Steve Davis (1-32).

Tom Wand (67) and Nick Trainor (67no) top scored for the visitors, with the latter striking two fours and five sixes in a 51-ball knock.

Bridgwater travel to Bristol this weekend, knowing a win could secure top-tier status for another season, while Taunton Deane travel to Frocester.
