HALF-centuries from Liam Winter and R Williams led North Petherton 2nd XI to a final over victory in Saturday’s Somerset Cricket League Division Seven local derby with Middlezoy 2nd XI.

Winter made 72 and Williams, 56 not out, as Pethy successfully chased down Zoy’s 220-6.

Jack Hoare (28) and Tom Lambert (23) also chipped in with vital contributions, as Pethy reached their target with three balls to spare.

Earlier, Grant Purchase (84), J Gray (62) and M Wilkins (33) top scored for Middlezoy, while Liam Winter (2-24) and J Rees (1-11) were the pick of the Pethy attack.

Elsewhere in Division Seven, Wembdon Wyverns were three-wicket winners at Taunton Deane Crusaders thanks to 42 from Scott Pigden and 39 from Keith Futcher.

The pair top scored for Wyverns to guide them home, after Deane had earlier posted 194-4 from their 45 overs.

J Arscott (67) and J Eamer (58) both passed fifty for the hosts, but it wasn’t enough to stop Wyverns taking the points.

In Division One, Middlezoy fell 59 runs short at home to Temple Cloud.

B Warren (4-55), N Barnard (2-40) and J Dillow (2-62) combined to bowl the visitors out for 233 – but the Middlezoy batsmen were unable to take advantage of some good starts and crashed to 174 all out.

J Lacey (33), G Musgrave (37), A Campbell (28) and B Dillow (24) all got off to starts, but no one was able to go on and make a match-winning score.

North Newton lost out by 29 runs at Westlands in Division Two, despite 67 from A Jenkins.

Jenkins’ half-century at the top of the order put Newton in a strong position, as they set off in pursuit of Westlands’ 204-7.

But when he was dismissed, only J Stone (35) and C Street (27) got to grips with the reply, as they slumped to 175 all out.

In Division 8N, Bridgwater Sports suffered a narrow defeat at the hands of Belvedere 2nd XI, losing out by just four runs, despite an unbeaten half-century from B Winter.

Winter was left stranded on 60 not out as the wickets tumbled around him, having earlier taken 4-34 to skittle Belvedere out for just 111.

Only two other players made it into double figures for Sports, who sit second from bottom in the division.

Elsewhere in 8N, Wembdon Academy beat Wells 2nd XI 15 runs thanks to four wickets from M Denham.

Denham took 4-40 from 11.4 overs to help restrict Wells to 191-9, despite a fine century from J Connock (104).

C Savage (41) and L Musgrove (35no) top scored for Wembdon in a total of 206-5.
