A TEAM of swimmers from Enmore School achieved a huge haul of 14 medals at the finals of the Somerset School Games held at Millfield School on Friday, July 3.

The team, made up of Year 5 and 6 pupils, qualified for the finals following tough competition from a number of Bridgwater schools in the qualifying round a few weeks earlier.

With the race heats held in the morning, Enmore set out their stall very early on in the Millfield Pool, securing a place in all but one of the finals races, which were held in the afternoon.

Storm Munday showed that hard and regular training in the pool pays dividends, with a record three golds and a bronze.

It was Storm’s technique & determination that brought home the boys 4 x 25metre freestyle relay team from almost last, to win the bronze medal.

Team member Louis Stokes, aged nine, said: "This was the last race of the day, and we were all feeling tired from the earlier races.

We felt that we had lost the chance of a medal after the third person swam, but the dive from Storm was fantastic which pulled us up the field, and then Storm showed us what regular swimming training does as his speed enabled him to overtake a number of other people - and when he touched the side of the pool we knew he had won us bronze.”
