Wembdon 146-5 beat Street 140 by five wickets

AFTER two weeks on the road Wembdon returned home with a comfortable five-wicket victory over Street on Saturday.

Street won the toss and elected to bat first, and some tight opening overs by Brockwell and Marrs kept the run rate low but their efforts didn't bring about any wickets.

A steady opening partnership of 45 was ended in the 14th over as Brendan Pope, returning from several weeks on the medical table, clean bowled D Higgs (32).

Pope claimed another in his next over removing Western (14) Street other opener.

With wickets falling, Dan Bingham got in the act - and after conceding just three runs from his first six overs - found himself on a hat-trick, to no avail.

The Street batters had little answer as Bingham moved the ball in and out and he and Pope tore through the Street middle order.

Only Bisgrove (50) offered any resilience for Street but he was undone by a slower ball at the end of the 31st over.

Bingham went on to claim 4-28 from 10 overs and Brendan Pope 3-47 from his 10 - between them they accounted for the top seven Street batters as the visitors were all out for 140.

Rich Gower (33) got the Wembdon innings off to a flyer, but resuming after tea on 51-2, which quickly became 56-4, the hosts were wobbling.

But Joshua Marrs and Billy Vickery stemmed the flow of wickets and took the game away from Street quite quickly.

The pair added 69 for the fifth wicket with a classy knock of 44 from Billy Vickery.

With the score on 125-5 and 16 runs required Marrs (48no) finishing the match in style with a six as Wembdon romping to victory in the 26th over.

Next week Wembdon travel to North Perrott CC set up to be one of the toughest challenges of the season.
