MIDDLEZOY 2s snuck to a one-wicket win at Evercreech in Division Seven of the Somerset Cricket League, courtesy of a match-winning tenth-wicket partnership between M Wilkins (26no) and B Searle (22no).

Zoy crept to their target of 195 with just three overs remaining, after Nathan Peppard had earlier taken 5-57 to put his side in a strong position.

Elsewhere in Division Seven, half-centuries from L Winter (67no) and T Lambert (52no) saw North Petherton 2s cruise to an eight-wicket win against Uphill Castle Cavaliers – and Wembdon Wyverns suffered an exact reverse, going down by eight wickets at Chard A.

Shapwick and Polden 4s all-rounder M Higgs put in a performance to remember on an afternoon to forget for his side, as they slumped to a 39-run defeat to Cranmore 2s in Division 9NW.

Higgs followed up last weekend’s score of 99, with a superb all-round display, as he took 5-16 and top-scored with 53.

His bowling effort helped Shapwick dismiss Cranmore for just 139, with L Always taking 4-24 – but with the bat, his half-century was something of a lone effort and Shapwick were all out 100, with L Shepherd (20) the only other player to reach double figures.

In Division One, Bridgwater A lost out to Watchet (see the Big Match, page 67) – and Middlezoy were 70-run victors over Bagborough, thanks to 4-16 from B Warren.

Warren tore through the Bagborough middle-order, as Zoy successfully defended 174.

A fine spell of bowling from S Mason was the catalyst for Mark’s five-wicket victory over Purnells 2s in Division Six, as they cruised to their target of 134 inside 32 overs.

Mason took 4-27 from 11.3 overs with the new ball, before S Blake (44) and N Ollerenshaw (26no) saw Mark home.

Elsewhere in the division, Shapwick and Polden 3s crashed to a nine-wicket defeat at Sparkford, as only two batsmen made double figures.

In Division 8N, Bridgwater Sports were all out for just 90 in a 1-7-run defeat to Watchet 2s – and Spaxton were seven wicket winners at home to Banwell & Churchill 2s, thanks to 64no from A Richards and 56 from Tom Bellinger.

Bellinger also took 3-40 with the ball in an impressive all-round performance.

Finally, Max Syvret’s unbeaten 62 helped Wembdon Academy to a five-wicket victory over Lympsham 2s.
