Wembdon 293-8 beat North Perrott 231-8 by 62 runs

JONATHAN Brockwell and Brendan Pope both struck half-centuries as Wembdon continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 62-run victory over North Perrott on Saturday.

Brockwell (58) and Pope (56no) fired Wembdon to a commanding 293-8 batting first, before Joshua Marrs (3-30) and Dan Bingham (2-25) helped restrict Perrott to just 231 in reply.

Wembdon skipper Rich Eckley won the toss and elected to bat first.

Perrott opening bowler S Hawes bowled a tight line throughout his 10 over spell and T Lott survived an early scare dropped in the covers whilst on 0.

A stunning low catch in the gully by B Johnson removed Gower (26) and then a quick leg side stumping caught Lott (33) off balance.

Marrs (17) and Brockwell rebuilt the innings with a commanding stand of 74 for the third wicket which took Wembdon to 123 for 2 at the halfway interval.

Wembdon were at risk of stalling as a couple quick wickets slowed the run rate slightly, but Trunks (40) and Pope got the innings back on track with some excellent running.

The pair scored at nine runs an over during the last 10 overs, including 12 boundaries as Wembdon muscled their way to a commanding and competitive 293 for 8 off 50 overs.

Perrott were 31-2 after 11 overs but rebuilt somewhat with a stand of 78 for the third wicket.

Wickets remained hard to come by although Phillips picked up the wicket of B Johnson (36).

Brockwell trapped Symes (21) and then Marrs returned to the attack to pick up two quick wickets, including that of Whorlow.

Marrs claimed another and Bingham returned to have Draper caught.

The Perrott innings fizzled out and although they batted out the overs for 231-8 it was a strong 62 run win for Wembdon.

Next Saturday Wembdon travel to Butleigh CC.
