SHAPWICK and Polden IV were 117-run winners at Leigh-on-Mendip in Division 9NW of the Somerset Cricket League.

M Higgs fell one-run short of a deserved century as Shapwick posted 221 all out batting first, before bowling Leigh out for just 104.

In Division One, Bridgwater A slumped to a 66-run defeat at the hands of Temple Cloud, despite 4-45 from T Hill.

Chasing 173 for victory, Bridgwater fell well short with only four players reaching double figures.

J Hill (20) and M Skidmore (19no) top scored for Bridgwater A.

Elsewhere in the Division, Middlezoy lost out by four wickets to Winscombe, despite 47 from J Gray.

Zoy posted 158-9 batting first, with G Musgrave adding 30 – but Winscombe edged home with four wickets and just over four overs to spare.

In Division Six, Shapwick & Polden III were four-wicket winners over Crewkerne, thanks to 4-25 from C Birch.

Crewkerne were skittled for just 95, but Shapwick made hard work of the chase before squeezing home.

Wembdon Wyverns suffered a six-wicket defeat to Barrington, who successfully chased down 158.

S Pigden (76) top scored for Wyverns.

In Division 8N, Bridgwater Sports won a low-scoring game against Wembdon Academy by 24 runs.

M Winter (40) top scored for Sports to help them to 145 all out batting first, while G Howes (5-39) was the pick of the bowlers.

But Wembdon’s batsmen were unable to back up a fine bowling display and crumbled to 121 all out - Z Glassup claimed 4-15 for Sports.

In Division two, an unbeaten half-century from J Stone fired North Newton to an eight-wicket victory over Kilve.

Three wickets from M Barham helped to bowl Kilve out for just 100, before Stone and Sellick (20no) eased North Newton to victory.
