Bridgwater 185-7 beat Clevedon 95 all out by 90 runs

HALF-centuries from Mitch Windsor and Stuart Butt together with five wickets from South African Daniel Van Der Berg saw Bridgwater record a comfortable victory over Clevedon on Saturday.

Bridgwater were inserted by the home side and soon looked to be on the rocks after Andy Hallaran and Chris Gange were both dismissed without scoring.

Mitch Windsor was joined by Stuart Butt with the score at 32-3 and the two began to rebuild the innings in careful fashion.

Windsor (85) continued his great early season form as he and Butt (57) batted steadily against Clevedon’s four spinners.

Butt dispatched Lintott for three big sixes before eventually being well caught on the long-on boundary attempting another maximum.

Windsor took the attack to Clevedon but Bridgwater lost late wickets reaching 185-7 in their allotted overs.

In reply, Masoor Khan (44) offered stubborn resistance to Bridgwater’s bowling attack but did not find any partners as Higgins tore into the Clevedon top order.

Higgins (3-13) bowled with great control and was well rewarded with three wickets, including the important scalp of ex-Somerset man Chris Jones.

Clevedon’s middle order collapsed with the introduction of Van Der Berg (5-34) to the Bridgwater attack.

Helped by Matt Habberfield’s (0-23) miserly bowling and some great catching behind the wicket, Van Der Berg claimed five wickets, effectively ending Clevedon’s challenge.

Skidmore (2-27) returned to pick up the last two wickets as Clevedon were all out for 95.

Bridgwater entertain Corsham at the Parks next week, while the thirds are at home to Watchet, 1.30pm start.

ECB National Knockout

Bridgwater 96-0 beat North Petherton 95 by ten wickets

FOLLOWING Saturday’s win over Clevedon, Bridgwater recorded another impressive victory in the ECB National Knockout, trouncing North Petherton by ten wickets at the Parks.

Bridgwater were asked to field first by the visitors and soon began to make the most of that decision as Singleton (3-23) made early inroads into the North Petherton top order.

Lloyd Irish (42) was the only Petherton batsman to get going as Bridgwater regularly picked up wickets.

Habberfield (3-43) and Davis (2-16) kept the pressure on the visitors and once the former had removed Mike Burns with the score at 81-5, North Petherton collapsed.

Skidmore (1-15) and Windsor cleaned up the tail as the visitors were all out for 96 in just 30 overs.

Andy Hallaran and Chris Gange (23) set about chasing down the target in imperious fashion, with Hallaran hitting the ball to all parts - his 75 came from just 41 deliveries, including 14 fours and 2 sixes – as Bridgwater made short work of the 96 required to win.
