Wembdon 206-7 beat Ashbrittle 205 by three wickets
WEMBDON started life back in the WEPL Somerset Premier League with convincing three-wicket win over Ashbrittle inside 30 overs.
Chasing 206 to win, half-centuries from Tom Lott (53) and Dan Bingham (54) saw Wembdon cruise to their target in 29.3 overs.
Earlier, Lott took 3-20 as Ashbrittle were all out in 35.4 overs, while Brendan Pope (241), Bingham (2-45) and Matt Hubbard (2-38) all chipped in with two wickets apiece.
Winning the toss Wembdon opted to field first and the breakthrough came early.
A steady third wicket partnership took Ashbrittle to 50 before Bingham and Pope took another wicket apiece to leave Ashbrittle 54-4 after 11 overs.
After going ten overs without a wicket, Hubbard eventually got the breakthrough and this triggered a flurry of wickets.
The introduction of spin got the big wicket of Williams (137) as Lott had him well caught by Brockwell in the deep – and he wrapped up the innings with another two wickets.
The Wembdon reply got off to a blistering start with openers Lott and Gower quick to punish a series of half volleys.
Lott continued his impressive run reaching his 50 off 41 balls – before a 70-run partnership between Brockwell and Bingham took Wembdon near to victory.
Bingham blasted 50 off 23 balls.
He fell in controversial fashion to a catch in the deep, but Vickery stroked a classy 16 not out to see Wembdon home with 20 overs to spare.
Wembdon travel to Street CC on Saturday.
