Wembdon 206-7 beat Ashbrittle 205 by three wickets

WEMBDON started life back in the WEPL Somerset Premier League with convincing three-wicket win over Ashbrittle inside 30 overs.

Chasing 206 to win, half-centuries from Tom Lott (53) and Dan Bingham (54) saw Wembdon cruise to their target in 29.3 overs.

Winning the toss Wembdon opted to field first and the breakthrough came early.

A steady third wicket partnership took Ashbrittle to 50 before Bingham and Pope took another wicket apiece to leave Ashbrittle 54-4 after 11 overs.

After going ten overs without a wicket, Hubbard eventually got the breakthrough and this triggered a flurry of wickets.

The introduction of spin got the big wicket of Williams (137) as Lott had him well caught by Brockwell in the deep – and he wrapped up the innings with another two wickets.

The Wembdon reply got off to a blistering start with openers Lott and Gower quick to punish a series of half volleys.

Lott continued his impressive run reaching his 50 off 41 balls – before a 70-run partnership between Brockwell and Bingham took Wembdon near to victory.

Bingham blasted 50 off 23 balls.

He fell in controversial fashion to a catch in the deep, but Vickery stroked a classy 16 not out to see Wembdon home with 20 overs to spare.
