FORMER Wembdon captain Dan Bingham says the side are ‘determined to bounce back’ from last season’s relegation from the WEPL Bristol & Somerset Division, when they open up the new campaign at home to Ashbrittle on Saturday.

Bingham has handed over the captaincy to Richard Eckley - and believes they are well-equipped for an immediate return to the third tier.

He said: “Wembdon Cricket Club have had a great preseason with fixtures versus Taunton, Shapwick, Cheddar, Trull and Kilve.

“Results have been positive but the individual performances have been very encouraging so far this year.

“After a disappointing campaign by our standards in 2014, Wembdon are determined to bounce back and with early season scores for all the top order batters, the squad are going into the league season in good form.

“There have seen a large number of changes with six new captains for 2015 across all our Saturday, Sunday and ladies teams.

“The atmosphere around the club during April has been brilliant and the club got a big morale booster as Western Australian Joshua Marrs arrived during the week, scoring 101 not out on debut versus Shapwick & Polden.

The season gets underway this weekend as Wembdon host newly promoted Ashbrittle on Saturday (1pm).
