Southern League Division One

Bridgwater Town 4, Swindon Supermarine 3

BRIDGWATER Town manager Richard Fey said he was happy to see Dave O’Hare ‘in the right place at the right time’ after the substitute netted an injury time winner in Saturday’s seven-goal thriller at Fairfax Park.

O’Hare bundled home from close range to seal a dramatic win for the hosts, after earlier goals from Ross McNab (2) and Kyle Tooze.

Swindon scored an 87th minute free-kick to level the scores late on, but O’Hare was on hand to seal the points for Town – and Fey admitted he would have been satisfied with a draw having conceded three ‘poor goals.’ “Saturday was an entertaining game on a bobbly, hard pitch and strong wind.

“We scored some great goals, especially Ross McNab’s two - and if I'm honest after 85 minutes I was happy with the point considering the three poor goals we conceded.

“But bringing Dave O’Hare on for the last 15 minutes after an injury lay-off worked and he was in the right place at right time and scored the winner.

“Ben John got injured just after half-time, so we're hoping he will be ok for Saturday versus North Leigh.

“We have three away games now so it's going to be hard, but hopefully we can put in a performance and get some more points on board before end of season.”

Off the pitch, Bridgwater Town have been fined £1,000 by the Southern League for failing to fulfil a league fixture.

The club pleaded guilty to the offence, with mitigating circumstances – and as a result, the club’s football secretary, Rick Norman, has resigned.

A statement on the club’s website said: “We have received a £1,000 fine from the Southern League for failing to fulfil a league fixture.

“The club did plead guilty, with mitigating circumstances.

“As a result our Football secretary, Rick Norman has tendered his resignation, which has officially been accepted by the club. “Further announcements may follow, but the club is now actively looking for a full time football secretary.

“Those interested should contact either the Chairperson or the Vice chairperson or any committee member for further information.”

Speaking on the matter, Richard Fey said: “Unfortunately we didn't follow the correct procedures a couple months ago versus Wimborne at home when our pitch was waterlogged.

“The FA has hit us with a heavy fine which has put us back as a club again.”

The Robins travel to North Leigh on Saturday, before facing Taunton the following weekend.

There is also a club reunion at the last game of season against Evesham on April 25.
