Taunton Civil Service II 6, Bridgwater 5XI 1

BRIDGWATER 5XI suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Taunton CS on Saturday.

Despite a solid start TCS looked the better and fitter team and with plenty of subs they set about taking Bridgwater apart, which they eventually did scoring a couple of good goals.

Bridgwater held on and started to push forward themselves, with Dave Dosson accompanied by Sam Sweatman coming close - but the midfield of Geoff Banham, Tom Evans and Connor Gillespie helped drive things forward so that these opportunities could be created.

Despite creating problems Bridgwater had time just before the half to concede a breakaway goal.

The second-half saw the introduction of Alan Baldwin to the defence and he looked like he hadn’t been away making crunching tackles.

It didn’t take long for TCS to add to their tally in the second half, but this spurred Bridgwater on and they finally got their reward as a Stone strike from a short corner pinged around the D for Coad to finish.

Bridgwater fought hard as Howe, Coad, Gillespie, Evans and Kitch all impressed home and away players, but TCS were always stronger and despite Bridgwater’s resistance they scored two more goals, even with Morrish stopping one on the line with his body.

TCS well deserved the goals for the pressure that they applied.

Man of the match for Bridgwater was Ben Stone.
