BRIDGWATER Town manager Richard Fey is expecting a stern test when his side take on league leaders Merthyr Town at Fairfax Park tonight.

The Welsh side are nine points clear at the top of Division One South and West – and Fey expects them still to be there at the end of the season.

He said: “I’m expecting a good travelling support from Merthyr, so I hope the town gets behind us and it will be good to see the league leaders, and in my opinion, the eventual champions.

“They are a big club for this league, and could hold their own in the Conference, but we’re at home and will have a go at them.”

The Robins battled a heavy pitch and strong winds to secure a 0-0 draw against Tiverton on Saturday, a result described as ‘fair’ by Fey.

He said: “The game was a great leveller – the pitch was really heavy and the wind was strong, so it was a game between two good teams but not much quality due to the conditions.

“We created chances, especially in the last ten minutes, but a draw was a fair result and it was a point gained – but more importantly another clean sheet.

“The back four, with Nathan Rudge making his first start in a while, were superb.”

Dean Griffiths returns from suspension for tonight’s game and kick-off is 7.45pm at Fairfax Park.
