Congresbury 4, Middlezoy Rovers 3

MIDDLEZOY Rovers missed the opportunity to regain top spot in Division One West, as they went down 4-3 at Congresbury on Saturday.

Jamie Temlett, Dan Luce and Craig Wright were on target for 'Zoy, but this was a disappointing day at the office for the promotion hopefuls.

The pitch was in poor condition due to the rain and with strong winds the game was never going to be a spectacle of football, and so it proved with the home side resorting to long ball tactics from the off causing 'Zoy problems.

After 10 minutes, a ball over top and an easy cross led to a tap in from six yards helping the hosts into the lead. Jamie Temlett then scored the equaliser shortly after with a well taken curling effort across the keeper as 'Zoy settled into the game.

They took the lead midway through the first half after a mazy solo run and composed finish from the edge of the box from Dan Luce.

Congresbury scored before half time to make the scores level at the break from another long ball.

The second half saw Middlezoy retake the lead on the hour mark thanks to a poacher's goal from Craig Wright, who helped it home from close range.

After more scrappy exchanges on an ever deteriorating pitch, Congresbury managed to equalise after a defensive error.

This seemed to give the home side a lift and they eventually went on and after yet another goal mouth scramble they managed to put the ball in the back of the net to win the game.

Middlezoy have a week off and must wait until January 24 to put it right.
