IN a very close encounter Wembdon were beaten by one goal to nil in a game which could have gone either way.

Good defending and several good saves from Dan James prevented the score from running away from Wembdon.

The players knew they had been in a game by half time and the second half with the slope in their favour, Wembdon kept the pressure on a tiring Wellington side.

Good work from the midfield and constant running from the front two created several chances for Wembdon to get an equaliser their played deserved.

The Wembdon defence also held firm in the second half with some timely challenges to prevent further goals from being scored.

The best chance fell to Kristian West his shot just going wide of the far post from a shot within the box. The two teams meet again next week in the league. Man of the match was given to Dan James.

AS with the previous week, this was always going to be a close contest with both teams well matched.

It was Wembdon who had the best of the early chances with Brandon Cook having several good chances to give his side an early lead.

Wembdon also dominated the midfield with Dan James and Kieran Barrow both having outstanding games in the middle of the park.

Wembdon had the luxury of a strong bench and used it to their advantage giving key players a well- deserved breather during the end to end encounter.

Captain Will Andrews thought he had given his team the lead but his excellent effort ruled out for interference by one of his players unsighted the keeper.

Wellington took the lead against the run of play scoring from a failed clearance in the box.

This gave Wembdon the nudge to seek an equaliser for all the effort the team had put in.

Will Andrews got the breakthrough in the last five minute giving his side a deserved point.

Harrison French in goal during the second half pulled off two outstanding saves preventing Wellington from extending the lead to keep his team in this close encounter.
