WITHIN the first five minutes, the score was 14-4 to Vivary and Sapphires felt it could be another thrashing.

In the second and third quarters, though, the team pulled together playing the strongest so far this season – at one point pulling the score back to within two points.

Some changes in the last quarter from the opposition meant Vivary ran away with it – Sapphires losing by 16 points.

Player of the match went to Lynne Cornish. Sapphires are sponsored by Medipak Ltd.

Gems 30, Sharks 37

GEMS started slowly, taking too long to settle into the game and after the first quarter were three goals behind.

They were more determined going into the second quarter and pulled back within one goal but were unable to take the lead from the opposition.

Both teams defended hard, with Kerry Hobbs, Beth Fella and Amy Witcombe getting some great interceptions, but Gems attack was also put under constant pressure and failed to capitalise on enough opportunities.
