Southern League 1 S&W

Bridgwater Town 1, North Leigh 1

TOM Knighton slotted home a second-half penalty to earn Bridgwater Town a point at home to North Leigh on Saturday.

Knighton dusted himself down to fire home the equaliser from the spot having been fouled in the area, in a challenge that saw North Leigh’s Michael Hopkins sent off.

Town also finished the game with ten men with Craig Allen seeing red late on, as both sides were forced to settle for a point.

North Leigh dominated the early exchanges and took the lead following some neat build-up play – with Jamie Cook shooting home from close range to put his side in front.

Town hit back in the second-half with long periods of possession and pressure and were rewarded when Hopkins brought down Knighton – who kept his composure to level from 12 yards.

Now playing with a man advantage, Town piled on the pressure without being able to force a winner.

Andy Robertson led the Town charge with a masterful captain’s performance but the hosts weren’t able to grab an all-important second.

Allen was given his marching orders late on as the sides finished level on the scoreboard and numerically.

Bridgwater Town host Truro City in the Red-Insure Cup on Tuesday, kick-off 7.45pm at Fairfax Park.

On Saturday, they entertain Bishops Cleeve in the league (ko 3pm).
