BRIDGWATER Town captain Andy Robertson says Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Didcot will act as “a learning curve” for the young Robins side.

Tom Knighton fired Town into the lead midway through the first-half, but Didcot hit back in first-half stoppage time to equalise before netting a winner early in the second half – and Robertson says his side failed to recover from the equalising goal late in the first half.

He said: “Saturday was frustrating more than anything – Didcot are a good side and they started quite brightly, but after that I thought we had the better of the first-half.

“Their goal in added time really knocked it out of us a bit, more mentally than physically, and we haven’t quite got the experience needed to come back from that sort of thing.

“We’ve got a really young side and they’re developing and improving all the time, but we haven’t quite got the experience yet.

“We spoke after the game about how we can learn from it and it’s a pretty steep learning curve for us.”

Saturday’s game brings to end a tough run of fixtures for Bridgwater, whose last seven fixtures have been against teams in the division’s top nine, including Wimbourne, Taunton and Didcot, but they will be looking to get back to winning ways tonight when they take on Sholing at Fairfax Park – a game Robertson says they are targeting.

He said: “When you play sides in and around you in the league, you always want to get a win, especially when you’re playing at home.

“But Sholing are a good side and will be a tough opponent, mid-week games are all about how much you want it and how you approach them having been at work all day.

“We’ve had a tough run of games and hopefully we can get to 30 points as quickly as possible and build from there.”
