Plymouth Uni 2, Bridgwater Men 4

BRIDGWATER fought back from a goal down to beat Plymouth Uni 4-2 on Saturday.

As with any university team, Bridgy were expecting a young, quick fit team and that is exactly what they got and found themselves a goal down for the second week running.

Also for running weeks Bridgy slowly fought their way back into the game and levelled the match from an Andy Taylor reverse strike.

With Bridgwater’s midfield of Woolmington, Jenkins, Ligden and Birch working their socks off and some resolute defending from Upham, Dyte, Morrish and Rogers - Bridgy kept Plymouth's chances limited to just a few short corners where they looked dangerous.

Bridgy managed to take the lead just before half time from a Tom Lott strike for his first of the game.

The second half was also an extremely hard fought game with both teams working hard.

It was Bridgwater who would get the next goal from an Upham ball to Taylor who played a perfectly weighted ball for Lott to take it around the keeper to get his second.

Plymouth weren’t finished there and managed to pull a goal back again from a short corner.

At this point they had all the play and had Bridgwater under pressure, but a well taken early hit by Morrish set up Lott who slotted home for his third of the game and his second hat-trick in two weeks.

Bridgwater Ladies II 0, Shepton Mallett 9

BRIDGWATER Ladies II suffered a heavy defeat at high-flying Shepton Mallett on Saturday, going down 9-0.

The ladies made their way to Shepton to play high flying ,high scoring , top of the table Shepton Mallett 1s.

The team worked hard with Miche Evans and Emma Hill slowing the fast paced forwards of Shepton with some well timed tackles.

However the free running and skilful work from Shepton was too good and at half time the score was 5-0 against Bridgwater.

Jules Griffiths and Heather Tinkler combined with Emma Hill and Claire Evci to work as a unit chasing down all passes in midfield - but Shepton won several corners as Bridgwater threw themselves into tackles.

The Shepton squad kept running and linked well to find the spaces and slot the ball into goal.

Bridgwater V 2, ISCA VI 2

A HARD fought contest saw Bridgwater V and ISCA VI share a 2-2 draw.

The game started with Bridgwater putting ISCA to the sword as they pressed with Connor Gillespie and Kev Hicks leading the line and Harry Jackson playing just behind.

It was Bridgwater who struck first as Kettlewell converted a well-practised short corner routine for his first senior goal.

Will Kelly, Sam Sweatman, Lewis Coad and Bede O’Sullivan all came onto the pitch, rotating well with players to keep the energy high.

But as the half wore on ISCA came into the game more and came close on a couple of occasions.

Despite some top end clearances from Brewer, Date, Hicks, Lumby and Kettlewell, ISCA’s pressure soon told as they scored a scrappy but well deserved goal.

This led to the game becoming very stretched with defence versus attack, with Bridgwater getting fewer and fewer chances.

Jackson, Gillespie and Rose all did well up top trying to get something, but sadly ISCA found another goal which evaded the keeper and defenders on the line.

ISCA looked the stronger and more likely to take the win, but Jackson and Kelly both came close for Bridgwater in the final minutes as the former was wiped out by the ISCA keeper, but a shot evaded the goal.
