THIRTEEN Somerset clubs sent representatives to the annual County Champion of Champions Short Mat Bowls Competition.
The event was hosted by Kingscliffe Short Mat Bowls Club and held at the Community Centre, North Petherton.
Divided into two groups with each player playing everyone in their group, the winner of Group A, Mike Dare (Burrowbridge), met Group B runner-up Craig Lyttle (Ilchester) with Dare winning 11-7 over the ten ends.
In the other semi-final Martin Cowlin (Kingscliffe) beat last year’s winner, Andrew Pinkawa (Templecombe), 7-5.
In the final, Cowlin took an early lead and, despite pulling back to within one shot, Dare was unable to stop Cowlin pulling away after the half-way mark when Cowlin scored eight shots to Dare’s two, Cowlin winning 13-6.
In his presentation speech, Graham thanked Judith Shackleford and Colin Gay for organising the event on behalf of the Kingscliffe club and also thanked the club members who helped with marking and serving refreshments.
