BEN Rich was the star of the show for Spaxton as they beat Bridgwater Sports by 96 runs in Division 8S of the Somerset Cricket League.

Rich scored 76 as Spaxton posted 257-7 from their 45 overs before taking 5-26 with the ball to restrict Sports to 161-9.

D. Court (52no) also featured with the bat, while C. Savage (50) and P. Winter (3-63) were the pick of the performers for Sports.

Elsewhere in the division, Wembdon Academy were eight-wicket winners at Belvedere II thanks to a strong all-round performance from Keith Futcher, who took 2-6 to help dismiss Belvedere for 136 before leading his side’s charge with an unbeaten 59.

D. Stone (3-28) was also in the wickets, while M. Weston (59) joint top scored with Futcher at the top of the order.

In Division One, a devastating spell of 7-12 from Nathan Barnard fired Middlezoy to a ten-wicket triumph over league champions North Perrott.

Barnard ran through the Perrott line-up in destructive style before guiding his side home with an unbeaten 23.

M. Troman (20no) was the other not out batsman.

Bridgwater A slumped to an 83-run defeat at Bagborough despite 4-39 from Dan Rossiter.

Chasing 220 to win, Bridgwater crashed to 136 all out after Rossiter had starred with the ball.

Kilve suffered a heavy nine-wicket defeat at Burnham in Division Two after being bowled out for just 71.

G. Stone (23) and P. Stone (18) top scored, but Burnham had little trouble in reply.

Elsewhere, North Newton secured a 62-run triumph over Belvedere, courtesy of half-centuries from J. Stone (84) and A. Jenkins (78).

The pair combined to fire Newton to 274-8 before G. Kyte (4-57) helped restrict Belvedere to 212-8.

In Division Five, Mark crashed to a 98-run reverse against Baltonsborough despite the best efforts of S. Mason.

Mason (41 and 5-47) starred with bat and ball for the hosts, but lacked support from his side as they failed to chase down an imposing 259-8.

Chilton Polden beat Huish & Langport by 81 runs in Division Six as they successfully defended 215-7, and in Division Seven W. Pope (5-21) led the way for Wembdon Wyverns as they beat Uphill Castle Cavaliers by nine wickets, having dismissed the visitors for just 101.

A. Rees (51no) ensured an early finish with a quickfire half-century.
