NEXT Tuesday, thousands of parents up and down the country are preparing to pull their children out of school as part of strike action.

It's been organised by a group of Year 2 parents who say they have had enough of changes to the curriculum and are calling for an end to the SATs exams.

In a statement on their website, the group say: "In May,  all Year 2 children in England will take a WEEK’s worth of tests, in exam conditions, to assess their learning in English and Maths. These children are 6 or 7 years old.

"Teachers have spent years training to assess children’s learning and yet the government feels the need to impose externally devised exam papers with narrow subject matter leaving little or no time for individual learning, topic work or creativity.

"The 2016 Year 2 National Curriculum Tests (SATs) have been made considerably more difficult and challenging causing stress and confusion amongst children, parents and teachers."

It's seen thousands of parents across the country, including some in Somerset, pledge their support to also take their child out of school for the day on May 3.
