SPAXTON Cricket Club was formed in 1892 and is one of the longest standing village teams in Somerset, writes Richard Walsh.

Over the last 18 months the members have been transforming the club on and off the field, with a view to ensuring that there is cricket field in the village community for many years to come.

On the pitch in 2023 Spaxton enjoyed a successful season and were promoted as runners up from Division 4 of the Somerset Cricket League.

Off the field Spaxton ran a successful Crowdfunder Campaign in partnership with Sport England that raised a huge £28.4 k which allowed  the club to deliver a huge Ball Stop Netting installation at their ground to protect local residents and surrounding houses with the funds.

At the end of last season the club’s Heavy Roller that maintains the playing square broke down and has been deemed beyond repair despite numerous efforts over the years to prolong its life has been deemed to be beyond repair.

The roller needs replacing along with the outfield mowers that maintain the Playing Fields and to enable Spaxton CC to pay for this they have launched a 2024 crowd funder appeal in conjunction with Sport England.

Maintaining the ground and Playing Fields is a vital part of providing a welcoming an outdoor space for the village, community and a variety of other activities in the village and surrounding area.

This year Spaxton hope to continue to invest in their facilities to provide Cricket for Juniors, Woman and Girls and their growing men's side.

Maintaining the ground and Playing Fields is a vital part of providing a welcoming an outdoor space for the village, community and a variety of other activities in the village and surrounding area.

Last year Spaxton ran their first ever National Junior Programmes for young boys and girls aged  between 5-11 over an eight week period that welcomed over 30 young children to cricket and this summer hope to extend the same offering and introduce a woman's and girls program too.

There is a lot happening at Spaxton Cricket Club, but to enable the club to continue to afford their planned developments they need everyone to support their 2024 Crowdfunding appeal.

Last year Spaxton held a Fundraising evening in to support our Crowdfunding efforts and partnered with the amazing MNDA charity which is close to all hearts at the club.

The club will be hosting a similar event on Saturday 13th April which  provides another great opportunity to support by buying tickets for what is likely to be another great night.
