AS gale force winds struck Bridgwater yesterday, in a state of panic (and desire for breakfast food), I found myself dramatically gust towards BOS Café on the High Street.

In my efforts to escape from the adverse weather conditions, I saw no other option but to step inside and order the biggest breakfast they had on offer.

I took a seat at a small table in the middle of the café, and took a look at the menu.

Immediately I knew the number nine breakfast was the one for me, and I also ordered a green tea to ensure maximum inner peace and spirituality.

I was surprised at how cheap everything on the menu was, as from the outside and in, BOS Café struck me as a venue where food might be on the pricier side.Bridgwater Mercury: The menu for BOS Café.The menu for BOS Café. (Image: Jamie Grover, Newsquest)

This couldn't be further from the truth, as I paid only £8.90 for my enormous breakfast consisting of four rashers of bacon, two hash browns, two fried eggs, a sausage, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, and two slices of buttered toast.

I enjoyed watching the cars pass by out of the large front windows of the café as I sheltered from the wind, and took in the charming hustle-and-bustle of the clearly popular eatery.

I feared I may have been blown all the way to America, as the sun shining into the café was suddenly blocked out by an enormous spherical object - it must have been the solar eclipse, right?

Wrong - what I thought was a huge planetary mass blocking out all available sunlight was actually the plate of food I had ordered being handed to me - it was quite simply humongous.

In fact, the breakfast itself was so large that the two slices of toast came on a separate plate.Bridgwater Mercury: A closer look at my planet-sized breakfast.A closer look at my planet-sized breakfast. (Image: Jamie Grover, Newsquest)

I tucked in, worrying I may be unable to finish the meal, and be forced to leave feeling as though I had let myself and the Mercury readers down.

Every mouthful was delicious, and it was made even better due to the excellent value.

The bacon was cooked to perfection, as were the eggs, which were delightfully gooey - but not too runny - when I cut into them.Bridgwater Mercury: Inside the café was busy, but not in an overwhelming way. Inside the café was busy, but not in an overwhelming way. (Image: Jamie Grover, Newsquest)

I left the plate spotless (excluding the tomatoes, sorry mum) and used the toast to mop up every last morsel of flavour.

I will certainly be returning to BOS Café once I have room in my stomach again, following the huge breakfast I had.

Not only is the café a lovely place to sit in the heart of the town, the staff are friendly and helpful, the food is delicious, and it won't leave your wallet empty - what's not to like?
