HOW has Bridgwater changed in the past 15 years?

Thanks to the archives of Google Street View, we can answer that question, and take a virtual walk through the town centre in the year 2009.

A Britannia building society branch can be seen at the bottom of Fore Street, opposite the still existing branch of Nationwide - of course, nowadays to have two banks on the same street is rather rare.

Heading over the Town Bridge and onto Eastover, huge changes are immediately evident.

Consol Sun Centre can be seen on the left hand side of the road, which still exists but has relocated to Bridgwater Retail Park, and 'Big H' Pet Superstore is situated opposite.

Further down the road, the original Flowers International shop can be seen, a business which has since moved to 2 Eastover, and last weekend - 27 High Street.

The building which was knocked down to make way for the enormous Mercure Hotel, still stands.

Back in the other direction, on Cornhill, branches of New Look and '99p Stores' can be seen either side of the still existing pub.

The bottom of the High Street remains largely unchanged however, with Specsavers, The Sweet Box, Greggs, and KFC all remaining in place 15 years on.
