A Somerset school has been named the best in the UK for its use of technology.

Clevedon School, in North Somerset, scooped the title on Friday September 4 at the Teach Secondary Awards.

The use of iPads in the development of teaching and learning at Clevedon School have shown that technology and innovation are at the heart of the curriculum.

A learning platform called Firefly also enables parents to check on their child’s progress and communicate directly with teachers.

It allows pupils to set up profile pages for each pupil showing their attendance, behaviour, tasks set, tasks outstanding, tasks marked with feedback and grades and reports.

Work can be handed in directly from their mobile device, and access the course materials they need when outside school, including their timetable and homework list.

The Teach Secondary Awards are given out to schools and individuals who are playing a pioneering role in the development of teaching and learning.

Jennie Redwood, Staff Governor at Clevedon School said: “Technology is embedded throughout Clevedon, from iPads in the classroom to iBeacons located around the school.

"The Firefly platform powers every digital initiative, from augmented reality to pupils building apps for the school- from providing online learning resources to homework submission and marking.”

Firefly’s Moray Souter said: "We are delighted that Clevedon School have been recognised by the Teach Secondary Awards for their innovative use of technology.

"It makes us very proud to know that Firefly is playing a key part in their enterprising and creative approach to education.

“Streamlining homework processes and fostering Student-Centred Learning are at the core of what Firefly delivers.

"We also put great importance on parental engagement and it is great to see evidence of enhanced communication between teachers and parents."
