A TEAM of cyclists are taking part in a five-day ride to raise funds to thank two hospitals for their life-saving work.

Eddie Cattanach and seven others are cycling 300 miles from Exeter to Cambridge with the aim of raising £32,000.

The ride will begin on Saturday, stopping in Bridgwater at the end of the first day with the Bath Road sprint.

Eddie suffered a brain aneurysm in February 2013 when he was 41, while working as a sales manager for a Somerset business.

Eddie said: “I was working in Norfolk and came back the hotel after work with a headache, as many of us do, but this headache got much much worse and I collapsed.

“I was taken by ambulance to the local hospital before being transferred to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.

“I had many hours of neurosurgery and spent seven weeks in Addenbrookes.

“I went on to Mardon Neuro Rehabilitation Centre in Exeter and was there for several weeks.”

“My aim with everyone’s help is to raise £32,000, which is the cost my treatment and to give back 50% to Addenbrookes and 50% to Mardon so that the funds are there to help others,” Eddie said.

“Having a brain aneurysm and stroke and has made me have to re-learn skills that we all take for granted.
