A SECOND World War Torpedo boat that has been restored to its former glory will be welcomed back into the water tomorrow (Saturday) at Bridgwater Docks.

Enthusiast Paul Childs has overseen the colossal rebuild of the boat which has cost in the region of £60,000 and taken hundreds of hours of work.

To celebrate the launch of 1941 Motor Torpedo Boat 219 a ceremony at the docks with Mayor of Bridgwater Cllr Steve Austen attending The 72ft boat will be loaded onto the transport at around 8am at Durleigh Displays in Symons Way and is expected to leave for the docks at 10am.

Organisers hope that the boat will arrive at the docks between 11.30am and 12pm when the ceremony will begin.

The route is as follows: The boat will leave Symons Way at 10am, and turn left onto East Quay.

At the traffic lights by Currys and the Car Wash she will turn right onto The Clink and will proceed through the traffic lights, onto Northgate, past the Council Offices, past the Police Station and the back of Angel Place Shopping Centre (Mount Street), continuing past Scott Cinema to the Mecca Bingo roundabout.

At the roundabout she will turn right onto Penel Orlieu where at the traffic lights she will turn right again onto North Street.

At the Maltshovel roundabout she will turn right, onto Victoria Road which becomes Kendale Road.

The boat will then turn right into Coleridge Road where at the roundabout she will then take the second exit (turning left) which is sign posted as “T” (no through road) where the Bridgwater Sea Cadet Band will join the procession.

The band will escort her past the Bowerings Animal Feeds Yard onto the side of Bridgwater Docks.

Organisers have requested that pedestrians carry straight on through the concrete bollards and congregate in front of the flats.

In the event of bad weather the Bridgwater Sea Cadets have offered the use of their building T.S. Blake at the North East corner of the docks, opposite side to Admiral’s Landing from 10:30am.
